Treatment for Gynecological Condition

Gynaecology is the branch of medical science that focuses on different ailments of female reproductive system including Uterus, fallopian tubes, cervix, ovaries and vagina. It also deals with the problem related to bowel, bladder and urinary system since these organs are closely related to female reproductive organs. Right from Puberty to Menopause, a female’s reproductive system is continuously changing through the customary processes of pregnancy, aging, sexual activity, diseases and injury.

Gynaecology Treatment covers the broad spectrum of ailments to maintain health, preventing illness and treating underlying disease. However, getting versed with the Gynaecology treatment it is important to understand the process of reproduction and fertilization.

Understanding Fertilization

It is crucial to comprehend the process of production of eggs and sperm and how the conception takes place. The basic requirement for a Natural Conception includes:

  • Production of healthy Egg and Sperm
  • Patent Fallopian Tubes to facilitate sperm to reach egg
  • The sperms ability to penetrate and fertilize egg
  • Implantation of the fertilized egg (Embryo) into the uterus
  • Finally a healthy Pregnancy

Production of sperm and eggs is regulated by the hormones known as Gonadotropins. These are of two types:

  • Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and
  • Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

In men, gonadotropins stimulate the testicles to produce sperm and a male sex hormone - Testosterone. In females, it is responsible to stimulate the ovaries where the eggs develop. The female sex hormones - Oestrogen and Progesterone are produced by ovaries during ovulation which regulates menstrual cycle.

In an average menstrual cycle of 28 days, ovulation generally occurs on day 14. Ovulation happens when the egg is completely matured and is released from the ovary to the fallopian tube for further process of fertilization.

In males, sperm production occurs at the rate of 300 million sperms per day and takes around 80 days for maturation. Each sperm has:

  • A head which contains the genetic material and
  • A tail which helps it to move through vagina, uterus and fallopian tubes where the egg is fertilized.

Fertilization occurs when the egg and a sperm converge into a fallopian tube. Once the egg is fertilized, it starts to divide to form an embryo. Post ovulation, female ovary starts producing female sex hormone - Progesterone which prepares the endometrial lining in the uterus for implantation of embryo. After successful implantation, this embryo starts producing Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone (HCG) which gives a positive pregnancy test result.
